Learning Objectives:
1) The learner will develop an understanding of the nonpharmacologic interventions and their impact on cognitive processes of older adults with a history of cancer.
2) The learner will be able to identify contributing factors to CRCD.
3) The learner will be able to examine the evidence surrounding benefits of cognitive training and physical exercise on CRCD.
4) The learner will be able identify gaps in current literature and areas where further research is needed.

Abigail Simone
PT, DPT, MS
Team Rehabilitation
Abigail Simone, PT, DPT, MS received her bachelor’s degree in Movement Science and master’s degree in Molecular & Integrative Physiology from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, as well as her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Michigan – Flint. Currently, Dr. Simone is a pre-candidate PhD in Physical Therapy student at the University of Michigan – Flint, where her dissertation research focuses on the older adult oncology population. As a cancer survivor herself, Dr. Simone aims to use her personal experience to find solutions to the real-world problems cancer patients face. She currently practices as a physical therapist at Team Rehabilitation in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Jennifer Blackwood
PT, PhD
Dr. Blackwood is a Board Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties and an associate professor of Physical Therapy in the physical therapy department at the University of Michigan-Flint. Dr. Blackwood has won numerous teaching and research awards at the University of Michigan – Flint as well as at the State and National levels. As a mentor, Dr. Blackwood’s goal is to challenge students to seek the evidence first and to become the best version of themselves through leadership, research, and community service opportunities. Her research focuses on factors which contribute to physical activity, mobility, and falls in older adults with a specific emphasis on those with early cognitive declines as a result of pathology (Mild Cognitive Impairment, Alzheimer’s disease) or other disease associated sequalae (chemotherapy induced cognitive impairment).
