This course will be presented live virtually on April 9, at 7 P.M. ET. The Zoom link will be available to learners in their Dashboard. The course recording will also be available for On Demand access.

This course connects environmental justice and health equity to our patients, the communities we serve, the programs we develop and deliver, and our professional ethics.  Stories, studies, and statistics will illuminate links between environmental justice, health equity, and social determinants of health. We’ll explore environmental justice and social vulnerability indices that can inform program planning and provide a lens for viewing general healthcare and rehabilitation-focused clinical scenarios.  Selected past and current local, state, and federal environmental justice plans will be highlighted.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Explain how environmental justice and social vulnerability indices can inform healthcare programs and strategies.
  • Appreciate ways federal, state and local policies impact environmental justice and health equity.
  • Defend the inclusion of community-based stakeholders in health program planning and evaluation.
